Baby Jordan

The story of Baby Jordan

by Gary Bennett, Captain

Snow Pond Cruises

While on tour one evening with customers, I pulled up alongside a mother Loon and her baby. I was familiar with this family and knew where he hatched and I knew his age. I named  him Jordan. Jordan came very close to the boat and I could see what looked like a tumor on his foot. I took a picture of it and sent it to the Avian Haven rescue facility. They got back to me within 12 hours and asked me if I could rescue this baby Loon because he needed surgery.

Fortunately, I was able to capture the baby Loon the next morning. Avian Haven came and picked him up and they operated on him and they asked me if I could release him to his parents. Of course I was delighted to do that. I knew where Jordan lived, and I knew where his parents would be so within 48 hours I went back to the location with the parents were last seen, reached into the box and took out the baby. When I did he cried, and when he did, the parents came right to the boat. The representative from Avian Haven laid on the floor to release the baby. He went right back to his mother and dad, and there wasn’t a dry eye on the boat. It was such a pleasure to be involved in this rescue
